Chairperson of the Senate Discusses Further Cooperation on Sustainable Development with UN Resident Coordinator
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, held a working meeting with Sabina Mahl, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan.
During the discussion, the participants highlighted the successful conduct of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and emphasized the significance of President of Uzbekistan’s initiatives for the development of the international community. They exchanged views on the further implementation of these initiatives within the framework of national programs.
Special attention was paid to the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies, including the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and gender equality issues. It was noted that the reforms aimed at building the “New Uzbekistan” are fully aligned with international sustainable development objectives.
The parties discussed expanding UN institutions’ participation in parliamentary hearings and in the implementation processes of national SDGs, with a focus on regional work. Engaging youth in achieving the SDGs was highlighted as an important aspect, including through the III Global Forum on Interparliamentary Cooperation within the XII Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, scheduled next year in Samarkand.
Additionally, the organization of the upcoming Dialogue of Women of Central Asian Countries in November 2025 was reviewed, to be held within the framework of the 7th Consultative Meeting of Heads of State of the region, noting its effectiveness as a platform for exchanging experiences in advancing women’s rights and strengthening their role in sustainable development.
