Chairperson of Senate meets with UNICEF delegation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 August, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with a delegation of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation on education, reproductive health, improving the legal literacy of schoolchildren, protecting them from the harmful effects of negative phenomena were discussed. The important role in this process of family, preschool education, educational institutions was noted.
It was underlined that the country program, signed on 15 April 2016 between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UNICEF Representation, is being successfully implemented. It is developed taking into account the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2016–2020. The Republic of Uzbekistan had previously received a US$49.9 million grant from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for the 2014-2018 program “Improving Preschool and General Secondary Education”. UNICEF was the coordinating agency on behalf of GPE to oversee the grant’s implementation.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to deepen cooperation, in particular the development of a special program for Uzbekistan to ensure minimum knowledge of reproductive health for children and adolescents.
