CERR: how the prices for basic food products have changed over the week

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) continuously monitors prices in the domestic market. In particular, the analysis of price changes in Uzbekistan for basic food products for the period from 10 to 17 November 2021 in the context of regions, districts and cities was carried out.

Over the past week, a decrease in prices was recorded for beef with bones and rice.

According to the operational data of the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the average price in Uzbekistan for the period under review per kilogram of beef with bones decreased by 0.1% to 62,142 soums as of 17 November. The level of average prices was in the range from 54,656 soums per kilogram in the Republic of Karakalpakstan to 66,185 soums in Khorezm region.

The decline in prices for beef with bones indicates the stabilization of the situation in the domestic market. 

A decrease in beef prices was observed in Bukhara (-1.1%), Kashkadarya (-0.7%), Jizzakh (-0.4%) Samarkand (-0.1%) regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (-0.6%).

In the context of regions in Navoi, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya, Khorezm regions, as well as in the city of Tashkent, prices for beef with bones have not changed compared to last week.

In terms of districts, the top 5 districts with the highest prices per kilogram of meat with bones were headed by Akhangaran (72,500 soums / kg), Yangiyul (72,000 soums / kg), Kuyichirchik (71,129 soums / kg), Khiva (71,000 soums / kg) ) and Urgench (70,500 sum / kg) regions.

Based on the data of the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the average price of rice in the republic for the period under review decreased by 0.2% and amounted to 9,912 soums per kilogram as of 17 November. The level of average prices was in the range from 6,520 soums in the Republic of Karakalpakstan to 11,604 soums in the city of Tashkent.

The decline in rice prices (per kilogram) was observed in almost all regions. A decline in prices was recorded in Surkhandarya (by 1.1%), Khorezm (by 0.8%), Syrdarya (by 0.5%), Samarkand (by 0.4%), Jizzakh (by 0.1%), Bukhara (by 0.1%), and regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (by 0.8%).

In terms of districts, the top 5 districts with the highest prices per kilogram of rice were headed by Tashlyak (12,727 soums / kg), Yazvan (12,700 soums / kg), Yangiyul (12,667 soums / kg), Yukori-Chirchiksky (12,500 soums / kg) kg) Uchtepa (12 463 sum / kg) districts.

Below are the changes in prices for eggs (per ten), milk, potatoes, sunflower oil, wheat flour, and sugar for the period under review.

From 10 November to 17 November 2021, an increase in average prices in the republic was recorded in all products from the above: milk (by 0.3% or 6 338 soums per liter), eggs (by 0.9% or 11 095 per ten), potatoes ( by 2.1% or 4,700 soums per kg), sunflower oil (by 0.1% or 19,485 soums per liter), wheat flour (by 0.4% or 4,995 per kg) and sugar (by 0.9 % or 8 916 sum per kg).

In the context of regions, the largest price increase was recorded for:

- eggs for a dozen in Bukhara (3.2%), Andijan (1.8%), Tashkent (1.3%), Kashkadarya (1.3%) regions.

- milk in Bukhara (by 2.2%), Jizzakh (by 1.4%), Tashkent (28.3%), Namangan (by 0.7%) regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (by 1.0% );

- sugar in Andijan (by 2.5%), Bukhara (by 2.0%), Tashkent (by 1.5%), Jizzakh (by 0.9%), Namangan (by 0.8%) regions, and also in Tashkent (by 1.2%);

- sunflower oil in Jizzakh region (by 0.1%) and in the city of Tashkent (by 0.9%);

- flour in Bukhara (by 1.3%), Khorezm (by 0.9%), Syrdarya (by 0.7%), Kashkadarya (by 0.6%) and Ferghana (by 0.6%) regions;

-potatoes in Samarkand (by 4.2%), Syrdarya (by 4.5%) Andijan (by 3.3%), Bukhara (by 2.7%), Tashkent (by 2.2%) regions.

In Uzbekistan, over the period under review, the price environment for basic consumer goods is characterized by relatively low volatility, with the exception of potato prices. Compared to the previous week, prices for beef (with bones) and rice showed a slight decrease, while the dynamics of growth in prices for sunflower oil, milk, wheat flour, sugar and eggs slowed down significantly.
