Case of Construction Fraud Uncovered in Surkhandarya Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A case of fraud in the construction sector has been uncovered in the Surkhandarya region.

An architect from a private design company, having gained the trust of a resident of the Muzrabot district, demanded 17 million soums in exchange for facilitating the approval of project documentation for an unfinished non-residential building through the relevant authorities.

During a joint special operation, officers of the State Security Service (SSS) and law enforcement agencies detained the perpetrator with evidence of having received the specified amount.

Further investigation revealed that out of the 17 million soums, the architect was to transfer 1 million soums to the head of the district construction and housing-communal services department, who was also detained upon receiving the money.

A criminal case has been initiated against both individuals, and investigative proceedings are currently underway.
