Car-Free Zones Introduced Across All Regions of Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan continues its efforts to create a comfortable urban environment and enhance the tourist appeal of its regions.
The Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan has established designated “car-free zones” in each region, intended for walking, cultural recreation, and safe movement of both residents and visitors.
These zones are already in place in the historic center of Bukhara, spanning from the cultural heritage site Toki Telpakfroshon to the Ark Fortress parking area. Similar spaces have been organized in Khanabad, Andijan Region, and in Fergana Region — at the I. Karimov Palace of Arts in Fergana, the Eco Shahar Cultural and Recreation Park, Ahmad al-Fergani Park, E. Vakhidov Park in Margilan, Urda Square in Kokand, and the Istiklol Tourist Street.
In Samarkand, a 2.5-kilometer road within the new tourist site in the Konigil settlement has been completely closed to vehicular traffic. Road signs have been installed at all entrances. Additionally, I. Karimov Street (1.5 km), connecting Registan Square and the Shahi-Zinda complex, also functions as a pedestrian area.
The following car-free zones have been designated across the country:
Republic of Karakalpakstan: Dustlik Canal Street in the Dustlik Recreation Area (Nukus);
Andijan Region: Istiklol, Urikzor, and Sarikuy Streets (Andijan);
Jizzakh Region: Zargarlik Mahalla, Sindor Khamrokulov Street, Hamid Alimjan and Zulfiyahonum Museum, Urda Eco-Park;
Namangan Region: U. Nasir and Lutfi Streets in Obi Hayot Mahalla;
Kashkadarya Region: Historic Square in Shahrisabz, Miraki Tourist Center, Mustakillik Street in Karshi;
Syrdarya Region: 0.72 km section of Alisher Navoi Street (Gulistan);
Tashkent City: Taras Shevchenko Street in Mirabad District;
Tashkent Region: Tashkent Yuli Street (Karasu Mahalla), 1 km section in Oybek Mahalla; in Angren — Bunedkor Street and a section of S. Rakhmatov Street (Dustlik Mahalla);
Navoi Region: New Uzbekistan Park, Spirituality and Enlightenment Park, Sarmishsay State Museum-Reserve, Yoshlyk Lake;
Surkhandarya Region: A. Navoi Street (internal road) in Alpomish Mahalla (Termez);

The creation of pedestrian spaces has become an important component of state policy aimed at developing tourist infrastructure and establishing modern, safe, and environmentally friendly urban areas.
