Capturing the Soul of Uzbekistan: Award-Winning Egyptian Photographer Shares His Journey

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Renowned Egyptian travel photographer Yasser Alaa Mobarak recently completed a captivating two-week journey across Uzbekistan, documenting the country’s vibrant street life and historic charm through his lens.

A Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and a visiting instructor at Delhi College of Photography, Mobarak is widely celebrated for his evocative visual storytelling. This time, he turned his attention to Central Asia — with stunning results.

Based in Alexandria, Mobarak works with the internationally acclaimed ZUMA Press. He has received multiple awards for his unique photographic perspective, which he brought to the streets of Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand during his recent trip.

“It was a dream to visit a beautiful historical country like Uzbekistan,” Mobarak shared. “I focused on street photography because many photographers have already captured the iconic monuments. I wanted to show something different — to photograph the spirit of the country.”

While iconic landmarks such as the Ark of Bukhara and the Palace of International Forums made a strong impression, it was the daily life and human moments that drew Mobarak’s eye. His approach offers a fresh take on Uzbekistan’s image — not just as a destination of grand architecture, but as a living, breathing canvas of stories.

Mobarak also cited several highlights from his journey: the Friendship of the Nations Palace in Tashkent, the elegant Tuman Agha Ensemble, the striking Minor Mosque, and the timeless streets of Bukhara and Samarkand.

“When I visited Bukhara and Samarkand, I felt like I had entered a historical era,” he said. “Uzbekistan is a very beautiful country — people are very friendly and the food is really great. I’m planning to visit again soon.”

Through his lens, Mobarak offers not just images, but an invitation — to see Uzbekistan with fresh eyes, and to discover its culture not only through monuments, but through people, streets, colors, and everyday moments.
