Candidates for Ministerial and Regional Governor Posts to Present Anti-Corruption Strategies Before Parliament
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis on 7 October approved in its second reading a draft law requiring candidates for ministerial and regional governor (hokim) positions to present and defend their anti-corruption strategies during parliamentary and local council hearings.
MP Anvarkhon Temirov emphasized that the proposed law is aimed at strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms in the personnel selection process. If adopted, the legislation will introduce amendments to the laws on local government bodies, the regulations of the Legislative Chamber, and the Cabinet of Ministers.
“The law has been agreed upon with all ministries and agencies, and no additional funds from the state budget will be needed. We believe this document will serve as a solid legal foundation for continuing the country’s systematic fight against corruption,” Temirov noted.
During the discussion, MP Shukhrat Sharafutdinov asked whether the term “fight against corruption” also covers preventive measures. Temirov clarified that the proposed approach is comprehensive and includes both prevention and suppression of corrupt practices.
