Campaign “Make a step towards a healthy life!” starts in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan jointly with the World Health Organization from 25 January to 25 February 2019 will hold a campaign “Make a step towards a healthy life!” in Tashkent.

The purpose of the campaign is to increase the medical literacy of the population, to increase attention to their health, to carry out propaganda on increasing physical activity, calling for proper nutrition and quitting smoking.

Most people underestimate the possibilities of a healthy lifestyle, and for many it is associated only with prohibitions. In fact, a healthy lifestyle does not involve victims, but on the contrary, it turns into acquired years of life and well-being.

A healthy lifestyle is a complex concept that includes many components. This includes all areas of human existence - from nutrition and ending with an emotional mood. This is a way of life, aimed at a complete change in past habits relating to food, physical activity and rest. In particular, the Concept and the Program of measures for prevention of non-communicable diseases, supporting healthy lifestyles and increasing the level of physical activity of the population for 2019-2022 were approved in this direction. According to this

The campaign, held during the month, will cover public places in Mirabad, Yashnabad, Yunusabad and Shayhantahur districts of the capital. Health supermarkets have been created in Basket supermarkets, makhallas, organizations and enterprises. Health Lessons will be held on the ground for unorganized youth, and Votes for tobacco free territory will be held in educational institutions.

There will also be organized mass raids to comply with the rules for the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, to prevent incentives for the sale of tobacco products, to create at work, public transport and public places without tobacco territories. In addition, on-site doctors will conduct medical examinations of citizens, organize lectures for young people in educational institutions and communities about the dangers of smoking. Refusal of bad habits, such as smoking, drinking alcohol allows a person to maintain their health, and a healthy lifestyle helps to prolong life and improve health.

In turn, it is worth noting that non-communicable diseases also affect the health outcomes of our country’s population. According to the data, as a result of inactivity and malnutrition, half of the population of Uzbekistan is overweight, 46% of our people have blood levels of cholesterol higher than normal, and 31% have high blood pressure. Although in our country fruit and vegetable products are grown a lot, there are not enough fruits and vegetables in the daily diet of the population. In Uzbekistan, 78 percent of deaths per year are attributed to noncommunicable diseases. Naturally, propaganda among the population of a healthy lifestyle is more relevant than ever.
