CAFA U-17 2025: Uzbekistan Surrenders Title to Tajikistan Despite Leading Three Times
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s U-17 national team suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the dramatic final of the CAFA U-17 Championship 2025, losing to their peers from Tajikistan.
Uzbekistan started the match strongly. In the 13th minute, striker Laziz Abdurayimov confidently converted a penalty to open the scoring. In the 42nd minute, Sukhrab Sadrjanov capitalized on a goalkeeper’s error to double the lead.
However, Tajikistan managed to pull one back just before halftime, with Mehrubon Odilzoda scoring in added time at the end of the first half.
At the very end of regular time, in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the second half, Usmon Shirinov equalized to make it 2-2, sending the game into extra time.
Uzbekistan struck first in the additional period. In the 92nd minute, Sadrjanov scored his second of the night, putting his team back in front. But just five minutes later, Kamron Karimzoda leveled the score once again at 3-3.
The decisive moment came in the 120th minute, when Mehrubon Odilzoda scored with a long-range strike, sealing a remarkable comeback and clinching the championship title for Tajikistan.
