BYD Uzbekistan Factory becomes first three-star BYD plant outside China
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The BYD Uzbekistan Factory joint venture in Tashkent region has become the first BYD plant outside China to receive the “Three-Star Factory” status. The certification was confirmed following a two-stage audit conducted under BYD’s Star Rating evaluation system.
The inspection verified the plant’s full compliance with BYD’s corporate quality system, the IATF 16949 standard, as well as high criteria for production efficiency, process control, and management mechanisms.
Achieving three-star status opens strategic opportunities for the enterprise, including the expansion of export supplies, introduction of new models, implementation of advanced technologies, and strengthening its position in international markets. The company states that these achievements provide a solid platform for the sustainable development of production in Uzbekistan.
BYD Uzbekistan Factory was established in September 2023 by BYD and Uzavtosanoat with the participation of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade. In June 2025, the first serial BYD SONG PLUS DM-i CHAMPION electric vehicle rolled off the factory line, marking the beginning of series production of two new-energy models: the BYD SONG PLUS DM-i CHAMPION SUV and the BYD CHAZOR CHAMPION sedan with Super DM-i technology.
The plant’s initial capacity is up to 50,000 vehicles per year, targeting both the domestic market and exports to Central Asia.
The project envisions phased expansion: the second phase involves US$300 million in investment and an increase in production to 200,000 vehicles per year; the third phase involves US$500 million and a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year.
The three-star status confirms Uzbekistan’s growing significance as a hub for localizing new-energy vehicle production and expanding BYD’s global presence.
