Bus Sinks into Collapsed Ground at Construction Site in Tashkent’s Ulugbek District

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A video circulating on social media shows a bus and a minibus sinking into a collapsed section of ground. The incident was later addressed by Toshkent shahar suv ta'minoti (Tashkent City Water Supply).

According to the agency, the accident occurred at a construction site on Gulsanam Mirzo Street in the Ulugbek district, where work is underway to upgrade the water supply network, including the replacement of a 400 mm pipe.

“The work is being carried out systematically: excavated trenches are backfilled as the project progresses. However, a malfunction in a nearby section of the network caused a water leak, which in turn triggered a sharp soil subsidence in the filled trenches. As a result, the vehicles partially sank into the cavity that formed,” the agency reported.

Eyewitnesses noted that during attempts to extract the bus, heavy machinery overturned. Emergency crews are currently working to evacuate the driver, who became trapped inside the cabin, while simultaneously reinforcing and stabilizing the collapsed ground.
