Bukhara to host seminar on ICT in judicial system

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international seminar “Introduction of ICT into activities of the courts – important factor of raising efficiency of judicial procedures: advanced experience of foreign countries” will be held in Bukhara on 18 September 2013.

The event is organized by Supreme Court, Supreme Economic Court, UNDP Uzbekistan, Regional Dialogue and GIZ in Uzbekistan.

Experts from Malaysia, South Korea, Germany, United States, Estonia, judges from Uzbekistan, representatives of Ministry of Justice, State Committee on communication, information and telecommunication technologies, scholars and specialists will attend the event.

Uzbekistan pays great attention to introduction of ICT into work of the state structures, including to civil courts. The government adopted several decisions to improve operation of civil courts via introduction of ICT.

Supreme Court and UNDP project “Civil Justice Reform: Effective court management” developed an information system of electronic legal procedure E-SUD, which is tested at Zangiata inter-district civil court.

The project plans to introduce the system to all civil courts of Tashkent region stage-by-stage starting from 2014. During the process, it is planned to reveal shortages of the system and improve it.

During the seminar, it is planned to study experience of the foreign countries on ICT introduction in work of courts and implement these experience in Uzbekistan.

It is also planned to discuss measures on improving interaction and compatibility of information systems, used at courts and other bodies of executive power.

UNDP project “Civil Justice Reform: Effective court management” offers technical assistance in strengthening the institutional framework of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s civil courts. This is achieved through the development of favorable conditions for the further improvement of civil justice in legislation and in practice, through enhancing population access through e-justice implementation, and through enhancing the enforcement of court decisions.

The project is also working to strengthen the institutional framework of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s civil courts through increasing public awareness of the legal measures of human rights protection, and through providing enhanced civil justice efficiency.
