Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has discussed a draft law aimed at strengthening the protection of citizens’ right to their image.

Uzbekistan continues consistent efforts to reinforce guarantees of personal rights and freedoms, including their reliable protection. The updated Constitution enshrines the rights to freedom and personal inviolability.

In the context of the rapid development of information and communication technologies, the right to privacy in the use of personal images is often restricted due to the lack of effective protection mechanisms.

The new bill requires mandatory consent for filming and using a citizen’s image, while also defining exceptions where filming and use are permitted without authorization.

The document further establishes requirements to safeguard personal privacy in video surveillance, outlines legal consequences for using images without consent, and clarifies the application of these provisions in labor relations.

The law is designed to strengthen the protection of private life in the digital era and ensure a balance between technological development and individual rights.

During the session, deputies raised a number of issues regarding certain provisions, voiced suggestions and comments on refining the draft.

Following intense debate and a question-and-answer session, the bill was adopted by deputies in the first reading.
