Belarus to Share Nuclear Power Expertise with Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a meeting between the Deputy Prime Ministers of Belarus and Uzbekistan, Viktor Karankevich and Achilbay Ramatov, Belarus expressed its readiness to share knowledge and experience in constructing nuclear power plants.

The Belarusian deputy prime minister highlighted that the two countries have already signed a roadmap for cooperation in nuclear energy for 2025–2027.

Earlier, representatives of Uzbekistan’s “Uzatom” organization visited the BelAES site, where they studied the operation and infrastructure of the facility. Belarus has also expressed willingness to involve its construction and operational organizations in Uzbekistan’s nuclear power plant project.

Uzbekistan has begun implementing its national nuclear energy program and plans to build an integrated nuclear power plant. Both sides emphasized that the project will be unique for the global nuclear community.

Karankevich noted that BelAES currently generates about 40% of Belarus’s electricity. Over 40 organizations participated in its construction, with more than 9,000 specialists engaged at peak periods.

The project was carried out jointly with the state corporation “Rosatom” and meets high international safety standards. Belarus continues to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other international organizations on nuclear and radiation safety. In November 2025, a decision was made to construct a third power unit at BelAES, and preparatory work is underway.

Achilbay Ramatov emphasized Uzbekistan’s interest in involving Belarusian specialists in the construction of its nuclear plant, noting their high professional level and ability to support the project’s implementation.
