Belarus, Sri Lanka to become SCO observers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Belarus and Sri Lanka will become observers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) soon, SCO Secretary-General Muratbek Imanaliev said on 3 February.

He said currently the sides achieved agreement that Belarus and Sri Lanka will obtain status of the SCO partner soon.

The SCO member states received corresponding documents on possibility of cooperation with these states, he said.

Imanaliev expressed hope that these documents will be signed before the summit of the organization in Tashkent.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded in 2001. The organization includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, while India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan have the observer status.
