Aytjan Khalmakhanov Brings Uzbekistan World Championship Gold After 24 Years
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the World Wrestling Championship in Zagreb, Uzbekistan’s representative in Greco-Roman wrestling, Aytjan Khalmakhanov, won the gold medal.
In the final match of the 63 kg weight category, Khalmakhanov defeated Chung Han-je from the Republic of Korea, securing Uzbekistan’s first gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the world championships in the past 24 years.
In addition to Khalmakhanov’s gold, the Uzbekistan national team earned one silver and three bronze medals at this championship.
The silver medal in the 60 kg Greco-Roman category was won by Alisher Ganiev.
Bronze medals were awarded to Gulomjon Abdullaev (57 kg, freestyle), Umidjon Jalolov (65 kg, freestyle), and Abdullo Aliev (72 kg, Greco-Roman).
