Authorities Review Legality of Paid Parking in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officials in Tashkent are reviewing the legality of paid parking operations in the city, according to the Public Council under the Anti-Corruption Agency.
The council requested that the agency jointly examine the situation to ensure legal compliance, transparency, and the establishment of reasonable tariffs. In response, the agency launched a formal investigation.
The review covers the legal basis for creating paid parking, identifies potential loopholes that could foster corruption, and assesses whether competition and transparency principles are being followed.
On 24 November, a working group, including Public Council members and agency representatives, conducted field inspections of streets generating public complaints. The team also collected feedback from residents and local business owners.
Preliminary findings indicate that on some streets, paid parking replaces previously free spaces or occupies busy roadways, causing traffic congestion despite offering certain conveniences to the public.
Following the investigation, the Public Council plans to hold hearings with agency officials and issue recommendations based on the findings.
