Attempts to Illegally Import Medical Devices Worth 2.4 Billion Soums into Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officers of the State Security Service, together with personnel from the Border Troops and customs authorities, carried out an operational operation to counter the illegal circulation of goods and material assets.
At the international checkpoint “Karakalpakstan – Railway,” a train traveling the route Volgograd–Tashkent was inspected.
During the search of the 7th carriage, supervised by a 1981-born resident of Samarkand, 2,742 dental items, implants, and 30 types of equipment with a total estimated value of approximately 913 million soums were discovered in a ventilation shaft. All items were seized and documented as physical evidence.
A similar situation was uncovered in the 12th carriage: the carriage supervisor, a 1976-born resident of Tashkent, attempted to illegally transport 894 units of medicines and medical devices of 12 types through customs control, with an estimated value of around 1.5 billion soums. These goods were also seized.
Preliminary information indicates that both carriage supervisors intended to deliver the medical devices and medicines to Tashkent for material gain.
An investigation is currently underway.
