Attempted Illegal Sale of Land Plot for US$9 Million Foiled in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An attempt to illegally sell a land plot valued at US$9 million has been thwarted in Tashkent.
According to law enforcement authorities, a female resident of the capital born in 1953, who has multiple prior convictions, together with an acquaintance born in 1982, attempted to sell a buyer two hectares of an unauthorized land plot in the Yunusabad District.
The land belonged to a business entity but was subject to a ban on sale.
To create the appearance of a legitimate transaction, the suspects allegedly used their connections with officials and prepared the necessary documentation, after which they received an advance payment of US$200,000 for transferring the plot into the category of residential land.
At the moment the funds were handed over, officers of the Tashkent City Main Directorate of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, acting jointly with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, detained the suspects along with material evidence.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the individuals under Article 168, Part 4, Item “a”, as well as Articles 28 and 211, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
