Attempt to Smuggle Five Ancient Coins Prevented in Surkhandarya

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Surkhandarya region, customs authorities at the “Termez Airport” border post intercepted an attempt by a passenger to smuggle out five ancient coins.

According to an artistic expert examination, the silver coins date back to the 16th century and were minted during the period of the Bukhara Khanate.

The coins have been handed over to the Termez Archaeological Museum. Customs authorities are conducting investigative actions before initiating a criminal case.

It is reminded that the export of cultural values over 50 years old, including numismatic items, is prohibited.
