Assistant to Khokim of Kibray District Detained with US$10,000

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Tashkent Region, officers from the State Security Service, together with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, thwarted an attempted illegal enrichment scheme involving an assistant to the khokim of Kibray District.

According to the investigation, the official, responsible for overseeing entrepreneurship development, employment, and poverty reduction, demanded US$50,000 during a local community meeting in exchange for the transfer of ownership of a 400-square-meter plot of state-owned land adjacent to the mahalla.

To carry out the scheme, the official intended to use falsified archival documents with the help of acquaintances working in the khokimiyat.

During an operational check, the assistant was detained while receiving part of the demanded sum — US$10,000.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 168(a) and Parts 3 of Articles 28 and 211(a) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Investigations are ongoing to determine all circumstances of the case and identify any other persons involved in the criminal scheme.
