Assistant to Bukhara Hokim Detained for US$6,000 Bribe
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An assistant to the hokim in Bukhara has been detained while receiving a US$6,000 bribe, law enforcement agencies reported.
On 10 September, a resident of Peshku filed a complaint, alleging that the official had misused his position during a mahalla meeting.
According to the statement, the assistant offered to allocate seven sotkas of land from the hokimiyat’s reserve fund via the automated system “K-savdo” in exchange for US$6,000.
During a joint operation by the State Security Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office Department, and internal affairs authorities, the official was caught accepting the bribe through a third party. Material evidence was seized at the scene.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 210, Part 2 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code (“extortion”). The official has been placed in custody pending investigation.
