Assistant to a Judge Detained in Surkhandarya Region for Accepting Bribe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Illegal activities of an assistant to a judge at the Terminsky District Court have been halted in Surkhandarya Region.

According to the State Security Service (SSS), the official, abusing his position, initially demanded 500,000 soums and then an additional 800 US dollars in exchange for granting “preferential treatment” to an offender in an administrative case.

During a joint operation conducted by the Surkhandarya Regional Department of the State Security Service and the territorial division of the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office, the judge’s assistant was caught red-handed receiving 800 dollars through an intermediary, who was a relative.

A criminal case has been opened against him under Articles 168 Part 3 “b” and 28, and 211 Part 1 of the Criminal Code. He has been placed in custody, and investigative proceedings are underway.
