Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - According to the World Health Organization, every sixth person in the world who suffers from cataracts is over 40 years old. Congenital or acquired disease caused by clouding of the lens of the eye reduces vision and sometimes even leads to blindness.
As part of the implementation of the memorandum signed on 5 November 2019 between the Ministry of Health, the Women’s Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China, a humanitarian action was held in the capital for a month aimed at returning normal vision to people suffering from cataracts.
The campaign was supported by the charity Lifeline express (China). Established in 1997, from the very beginning of its activities, it provided free medical surgical care for cataract patients in China. Today, a charity project is being successfully implemented in other countries, including Uzbekistan.
A delegation led by the head of Lifeline express Guo Lei arrived in our country. Nine qualified ophthalmologists from Peking University People’s Hospital operated on more than 500 patients from low-income families. Cataract surgery was performed at the Samarkand Regional Ophthalmologic Hospital and the Republican Clinical Ophthalmologic Hospital.
In addition, an exchange of experience between foreign and domestic experts took place. Scientific and practical classes with their participation were held at the Republican Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital and the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Medical Studies.
Recently organized an event dedicated to the results of a charity event. Among the participants are representatives of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, relevant organizations, scientists, foreign guests and the general public. The work carried out during the month as part of a humanitarian action is analyzed. Participants discussed long-term plans and tasks in the field of medicine.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Women’s Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan E. Basithanova, and Minister of Health A. Shadmanov.
