Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) –– On 14 May 2020, an online seminar was held on the topic “Basic Requirements for Gender Expertise”.
The event was jointly organized by the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality, the Commission on Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UNDP Office in Uzbekistan, a project of the Ministry for Support of the Mahalla and Family "Empowering Women in Public Administration and Political Life."
It was attended by members of the Senate, qualified trainers, senior officials of the apparatus of the upper house of parliament.
During the online seminar, they spoke about the Regulation “On the Procedure for Conducting a Gender-Legal Expertise on Normative Legal Acts and Their Drafts”, approved by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers.
So, in accordance with the Regulation, a gender-legal examination of laws and by-laws governing all areas in society is carried out, which serves the purpose of ensuring guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men.
The seminar clarified the conformity of the draft legal document on which the gender-legal examination is carried out with the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, generally accepted international norms and the Law “On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men”, as well as other legislative acts regulating issues in this direction.
An online report on the topics “Gender Equality as an Inalienable Part of Human Rights”, “International and National Practice in Ensuring Gender Equality”, “Basic Requirements for Gender Expertise” was also considered.
