Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting was organized by the Working Group on Ensuring the Independence of the Judiciary under the Oliy Majlis, with the participation of lawyers, deputies of the Tashkent city and regional Kengashes of people’s deputies, representatives of state and public organizations.
During the event, members of the Working Group, composed of the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Youth, Culture and Sports D. Tashmukhamedova, Senator Sh. Sagdullaev, deputy of the Legislative Chamber A. Shadmanov, judges of the Supreme Court N. Mirzaolimov, I. Baltakhodjaeva talked about issues of ensuring the independence of judges, the openness of their activities, the participation of lawyers and prosecutors in the courts, the current state of familiarization with the materials of the case, electronic appeal to the court. The existing problems encountered in practice are discussed in detail.
Along with this, suggestions were made on the full observance of the principles of justice and objectivity, the formation of a corps of professional judges, the provision of video surveillance and sound recording tools, and the improvement of procedural legislation.
In addition, the meeting participants exchanged views on legislative norms aimed at strengthening the role of the public in the administration of justice, including the organization of work in this direction on the participation of lay assessors as part of district (city) criminal courts, military courts.
They also talked about the smooth presentation of reports of court chairpersons on their activities at sessions of representatives of the Commissions of the district Kengashes of people’s deputies to ensure the rule of law and anti-corruption, as well as ways to solve problems of concern to the population.
Appropriate decisions were made on the issues discussed.
