An Energy Storage System with a Capacity of 300 MW to Be Built in Navoi Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution titled “On Measures to Implement an Investment Project for the Construction of an Electric Energy Storage System with a Capacity of 300 MW (600 MWh) in the Navoi Region.”

As part of the project, the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade has concluded an investment agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar, UAE). The project envisages attracting US$180 million in direct investment.

Under the resolution, the investor transfers its rights and obligations to a specially established project company, which will assume responsibility for ensuring the guaranteed operational readiness of the electric energy storage system.

The project company will construct power transmission lines and a substation to connect the storage system to the country’s unified power grid.

Upon completion of construction, these facilities will be transferred to JSC National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan.

The costs incurred by the project company for the construction of the transmission lines and substation will be included in the electricity tariff.

Implementation of the project is expected to significantly strengthen the region’s energy infrastructure and enhance the stability of electricity supply through the use of modern energy storage technologies.
