An Assistant Judge Detained in Jizzakh Region on Bribery Charges
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the Jizzakh region, an assistant judge of the Dustlik Interdistrict Civil Court was detained while accepting a bribe of 300 US dollars.
According to the State Security Service (SSS), the official abused his position to gain the trust of a resident of the Mirzachul district and offered, in exchange for payment, to expedite divorce proceedings and facilitate the division of marital property.
He was caught red-handed in his office at the moment the money was handed over, during a joint operation conducted by officers of the State Security Service and the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office. Material evidence was seized on the spot.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainee under Articles 168, Part 3, Paragraph “v,” and 211, Part 1 of the Criminal Code. The court has ordered his detention as a preventive measure.
The investigation is ongoing.
