Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — All women working in the private sector — including sales assistants, cleaners, beauty salon professionals, and others — will now be entitled to maternity and childbirth benefits.
According to the Senate, while nearly 133,000 women received such payments in 2024, only about 15,000 of them were employees of private companies.
However, experts estimate that each year at least 150,000–160,000 women in the private sector take maternity leave.
Under the new Law on State Social Insurance, the system of social benefits will now fully cover all working women, regardless of the ownership form of their employer.
This decision aims to ensure equal social guarantees for all categories of workers and to strengthen the system of maternal protection in Uzbekistan.
