All Airports in Uzbekistan Switch to New ICAO Code “UZ” from 2 October
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting from 2 October, all airports in Uzbekistan will adopt a new ICAO code: UZ will replace the previous UT code, reflecting the airports’ national affiliation. This was announced by the “UzAeronavigation” Center under the Ministry of Transport.
On the same day, a unified transition altitude and transition level for Uzbekistan’s airspace will also be introduced. The transition altitude is set at 13,000 feet (approximately 4 km above ground level near the aerodrome), while the transition level is FL150 (15,000 feet or 4.5 km above sea level). Previously, these values were 6,000 and 8,000 feet, respectively.
The transition altitude is the level at which an aircraft’s barometric altimeter is switched to standard pressure (760 mmHg) during climb. The transition level is the conventional flight level, referenced to standard pressure, at which the altimeter is set to the aerodrome pressure.
The UzAeronavigation Center emphasized that this change is strategic: it will simplify operations for pilots and air traffic controllers, reduce the number of radio sessions and procedures, and improve the accuracy of air traffic management. In addition, the new parameters will make flights safer and more economical, lowering fuel consumption and reducing emissions.
