Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Billionaire Alisher Usmanov donated a collection of books worth US$8 million to the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan.
The director of the center, Shoazim Minovarov, noted that the collection consists of 4923 titles of rare books in Latin, English, French and German, published from the 13th century on the influence of Orientalism and the Islamic world on Europe.
In particular, the Center for Islamic Civilization received the first Latin translation of the “Canon of Medicine” of Avicenna (Ibn Sina).
It was noted that the Center for Islamic Civilization is being built in Tashkent with the financial support of Alisher Usmanov.
A library, an information resource center, academic departments, a conference room, office space and other facilities will be created at the Center.
