Akmal Shukurov Sentenced to Eight Years for Assaulting Boris Avakyan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Mirzo-Ulugbek District Criminal Court in Tashkent has sentenced Akmalyu Shukurov after finding him guilty of brutally beating Boris Avakyan near The Tower Hotel, according to the press service of the Supreme Court.
Shukurov was convicted under three articles of the Criminal Code: intentional infliction of serious bodily harm (paragraph “e,” part 2, article 104), fraud (paragraph “a,” part 4, article 168), and hooliganism (paragraph “g,” part 3, article 277).
The court sentenced him to eight years and one month in a general-regime correctional colony.
The incident occurred on the night of March 16 near the entrance to The Tower Hotel, which houses the “12” bar on its top floor. During the altercation, Boris Avakyan sustained severe head injuries and fell into a coma.
According to the investigation, the victim had attempted to protect a woman from Shukurov’s aggressive behavior. The perpetrator was later detained in Kazakhstan.
