Akmal Saidov Holds Talks with Head of Chinese Delegation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held in the capital between Akmal Saidov, member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Jiang Jianguo, Standing Member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Ethnic and Religious Affairs, and Executive Vice President of the China Society for Human Rights Studies.
The talks took place as part of the visit of a Chinese delegation to Uzbekistan. The discussion focused on key changes in national legislation and human rights protection. The Uzbek side briefed on the development of the draft National Human Rights Strategy until 2030 and emphasized the importance of exchanging experience in designing and implementing national strategies and action plans.
The Chinese side highlighted major achievements driven by policies of openness and consistent reforms aimed at protecting human rights, strengthening the rule of law, promoting people’s self-governance, and fostering patriotism. It was noted that China’s approach combines universal and national characteristics of human rights, with special emphasis on ensuring them through socio-economic development and expanding international cooperation.
Jiang Jianguo highly praised Uzbekistan’s progress in the field of human rights, calling it unprecedented. He particularly emphasized Uzbekistan’s international initiatives, including the adoption of 15 UN General Assembly resolutions on various aspects of human rights. Special attention was given to the joint initiative of China and Uzbekistan — the resolution on the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations.
Both sides welcomed the consistent development of bilateral cooperation between national human rights institutions and agreed on further joint efforts, including:
— aligning approaches to the implementation of national human rights strategies and action plans;
— holding regular joint seminars and conferences on pressing issues such as human rights protection in the digital space and the right to a healthy environment.
The participants expressed confidence that the agreements reached will help strengthen dialogue, promote the exchange of best practices, and develop effective human rights protection mechanisms in both countries.
The meeting was also attended by Yu Jun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Uzbekistan, members of the Chinese delegation, Mirzatilla Tillabayev, First Deputy Director of Uzbekistan’s National Center for Human Rights, Erkin Ernazarov, Editor-in-Chief of the Democratization and Human Rights journal, and other officials.
