Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 30 January 2020, as part of the formation of a new composition of the governing bodies of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Academician Akmal Saidov, has been appointed vice president of the IPU, as well as a member of the Subcommittee on finance.

According to the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, in October 2019, a candidate from Uzbekistan was elected for the first time in history as a member of the IPU Executive Committee for 2020-2023. In recognition of the widespread reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, the candidacy of Akmal Saidov was unanimously approved by all member countries of the organization.

Established in 1889, the IPU now unites 179 countries and is the main international body of parliamentarians in the world.

According to experts, the involvement in the activities of such an authoritative forum of legislative bodies of the world will allow for more efficient implementation of the tasks set by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the Message of the Oliy Majlis to the national parliament on 24 January, and also contributes to the active participation of Uzbekistan in shaping the world agenda for international parliamentary interaction.
