Air Transport in Uzbekistan: Tashkent Retains Leadership, Regional Airports Expand International Routes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2025, Uzbekistan’s aviation sector demonstrated stable growth and a well-structured distribution of passenger traffic between domestic and international routes. An analysis of key airport statistics highlights the country’s main aviation hubs and shows which regions focus on international flights and where domestic routes dominate, according to Uzbekistan Airports.
Tashkent International Airport remains the primary aviation center. During the year, it handled 79,958 take-offs and landings, of which 62,549 were international flights. The total passenger traffic reached 9,986,445, with over 86% — 8,603,526 passengers — traveling on international routes.
The second-largest airport in terms of international traffic was Samarkand Airport, which handled 12,130 operations, including 10,415 international flights. Its passenger traffic totaled 1,521,158, with the majority (1,459,019 passengers) on international routes.
Urgench Airport demonstrated a more balanced structure, with 6,546 operations almost evenly split between domestic and international flights. The total passenger traffic reached 862,522, slightly favoring international routes.
In Namangan, international flights predominate: of 5,755 operations, more than 87% were outbound flights. Passenger traffic reached 867,367, with 819,970 on international routes. Ferghana Airport handled 5,996 operations and 693,397 passengers, also primarily international.
At Bukhara Airport, despite active domestic traffic, the main passenger flow was international, with 5,786 operations and 574,036 passengers. Termez Airport is mainly focused on domestic routes: of 3,876 operations, the majority were domestic, serving 349,227 passengers.
In Nukus, domestic flights prevail: out of 2,827 operations, the passenger traffic totaled 330,707, with about 74% on domestic routes. Andijan Airport completed 808 operations and served 93,964 passengers, primarily on international routes.
Karshi Airport handled 2,138 operations with 176,331 passengers, while Navoi Airport received 49,110 passengers, maintaining a significant share of international flights.
These statistics confirm the strategic importance of regional airports in Uzbekistan’s aviation network: they support both domestic and international connectivity, particularly in tourist and border regions, contributing to passenger growth and national transport integration.
