Air Quality Deteriorates in Uzbekistan Due to Calm Weather, Temperature Inversion, and Fog

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Over the past two days, on 29–30 January, air quality in Uzbekistan has worsened amid unfavorable meteorological conditions.

According to experts, the decline in air quality was caused by calm winds and low wind speeds, combined with the formation of a temperature inversion, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change reported.

During the night and morning hours, a cold air layer remained close to the ground while warmer air was trapped in the upper layers of the atmosphere. As a result, fine particulate matter emitted into the atmosphere accumulated near the surface, leading to higher concentrations in urban areas.

Additionally, morning fog contributed to increased aerosol particle concentrations. Under high humidity, fine PM2.5 particles remain suspended in the air for longer periods, further intensifying pollution levels.

A special commission continues to conduct round-the-clock environmental inspections and monitoring activities.

Up-to-date information on air quality is regularly published on the official platforms of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change and the “Uzgidromet” Agency.
