Afghan Delegation Reviews Industrial Potential of Kokand SEZ

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a visit to the Ferghana region, an Afghan delegation reviewed the operations of major industrial enterprises located in the Kokand Free Economic Zone (SEZ).

The delegation visited BNBM Building Materials Central Asia, a facility producing modern construction materials, established with US$30 million in direct foreign investment. The plant has the capacity to produce 30 million sq. meters of standard drywall and 4 million sq. meters of decorative drywall annually.

Next, the delegation toured the joint venture Yong Xin, where a US$90 million investment from a Chinese partner supports tile production. Officials received detailed information on the enterprise’s production capabilities and export potential.

The visitors also examined the operations of MOLLIS LLC, specializing in knitwear for men, women, and children, and Great Kokand, which manufactures packaging and textile products using modern technologies.

Delegation members noted that projects in the SEZ play a key role in creating jobs, promoting import substitution, and increasing the region’s export capacity. They praised the investor-friendly conditions and high quality of locally produced goods. A product exhibition organized by the SEZ administration was also part of the visit.

Currently, 156 projects operate within the Kokand SEZ, with over 120 active enterprises. In 2025, the zone’s exports totaled US$138 million, reaching more than 10 countries. In addition, over 20 entrepreneurs from Kokand SEZ operate through the Afghanistan–Uzbekistan Trade House in Termez. The zone has created more than 11,700 jobs.

Following the visit, the Afghan delegation expressed interest in further developing mutually beneficial cooperation and highlighted the favorable conditions Uzbekistan has created for foreign investors.
