ACWA Power Plans to Increase Energy Production in Uzbekistan to 10 GW
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Saudi company ACWA Power is continuing to expand its energy presence in Uzbekistan, developing new multi-billion-dollar projects, CEO Marco Arcelli announced on 30 September.
“In the coming months, we plan to conduct a detailed assessment of areas with the highest demand for new projects. Our main priority right now is the successful implementation of ongoing initiatives,” Arcelli said.
He noted that ACWA Power is working on projects that will increase total energy production from the current 3.5–4 GW to 10 GW. The company is also preparing to launch a 1.5 GW wind power plant in the Kungrad district, aiming to accelerate its implementation.
Earlier in June, at the 4th Tashkent International Investment Forum, Sumendra Rout, head of ACWA Power’s Uzbekistan office, announced plans to sign a new US$5 billion agreement with the government.
The company’s total investments in Uzbekistan have already reached US$15 billion, and its current project portfolio includes 19 energy initiatives, 18 of which focus on renewable energy sources.
