Abu Dhabi Fund for Development Backs Expansion of Global South Utilities in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has signed an agreement with UAE-based Global South Utilities (GSU), a company specializing in infrastructure and energy projects, to support its strategic entry into the Uzbek market, ADFD said in a statement.

Under the agreement, ADFD will facilitate the acquisition of a 51% stake in the Uzbek company Yashil Energiya, marking an important step in GSU’s strategy to strengthen its presence in high-potential international markets. The partnership aligns with the UAE’s long-term vision aimed at global economic diversification and the promotion of sustainable development.

The agreement was signed by Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, and Ali Alshimmari, Managing Director and CEO of GSU, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi emphasized that the agreement reflects ADFD’s steadfast commitment to supporting UAE companies in implementing major international projects. According to him, the initiative fully aligns with the Fund’s strategic priorities, which include expanding the global presence of the UAE’s private sector and advancing sustainable solutions in key regions of the world.

Ali Alshimmari, in turn, noted that cooperation with ADFD opens broad opportunities for GSU in Uzbekistan. He stressed that the partnership will enable the implementation of projects with a positive impact on both the local economy and global sustainable development efforts, reaffirming the company’s commitment to innovation and long-term economic growth.

The agreement represents a significant step in ADFD’s mission to support international investments by the UAE’s private sector. It is viewed as a prime example of effective public-private partnership aimed at strengthening national economies, promoting sustainable development goals, and ensuring stability in global communities.

As part of efforts to expand Uzbekistan’s share of small-scale renewable energy sources, accelerate related projects, and introduce innovative approaches, additional agreements have been signed with GSU. The company will invest US$27 million in Yashil Energiya.
