Abdulaziz Kamilov participates in EU – Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 June 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in EU – Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, via videoconference.

Foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, exchanged views on the current issues of interregional cooperation in various spheres.

Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov informed the participants about measures taken in the country to counter the spread of coronavirus infection and combat its negative socio-economic consequences.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan is actively cooperating with relevant international organizations and foreign countries, including work is ongoing to coordinate joint efforts at the regional level.

In the context of interaction between Uzbekistan and the EU, the parties welcomed the establishment of close and friendly relations, which in recent years have become comprehensive and fruitful.

The intention of Uzbekistan to intensify dialogue with the European Union in priority areas, including by concluding an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, was noted.

The head of Uzbekistan delegation expressed support for the EU Strategy for Central Asia and noted the importance of implementing Uzbekistan’s initiative to host the European Union – Central Asia Ministerial Conference in Tashkent to strengthen interconnectedness and sustainable development. It was noted that it will contribute to promotion of joint projects in trade, investment, transport, energy, digitalization and other promising areas.

The parties also exchanged views on international and regional agenda, paying special attention to Afghan issues.
