A videoconference takes place with representatives of the World Economic Forum

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 9 April 2020, a video conference was held with representatives of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to exchange views on the experience of responding to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the information of the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, the heads of diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the director of the WEF Eurasian Department Anastasia Kalinina took part in the videoconference.

Participants in the event were given detailed information on the efforts undertaken by the Government of Uzbekistan to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. It was emphasized that measures such as quarantine, self-isolation regime and respect for social distance, implemented in our country are very relevant and timely in this matter.

It is especially noted that, despite the difficult period, Uzbekistan provides humanitarian assistance to neighboring states, which testifies to the commitment of our republic to strengthening good neighborly relations in Central Asia.

Representatives of each country presented information on the situation and measures taken in the states to curb the spread of COVID-19. In general, the measures taken in the states of the region are identical, in particular, to strengthen sanitary and epidemiological control, the closure of educational institutions and places of entertainment, and the establishment of medical supervision of people at risk.

In turn, the head of the Eurasian Department of the WEF, Anastasia Kalinina, noted that this event is important in terms of sharing experiences and best practices to counteract the spread of COVID-19 at the regional level and preparing proposals for fighting the pandemic.

She also announced the recently created WEF platform, which is designed to help combat the spread of COVID-19.

Following the results of the event, the following recommendations were developed for the WEF:

- actively assist in mobilizing resources to support the efforts of governments in the region in combating coronavirus and rebuilding national economies;

- create an effective platform for the countries of the region to participate in it by members of governments, experts, business circles, in order to formulate new recommendations based on best practices for further application and overcoming crisis situations.

As part of the event, it was recommended that the WEF provide active assistance in mobilizing resources to support the efforts of governments in the fight against coronavirus and the recovery of national economies, as well as create an effective platform to formulate new recommendations based on best practices for further application and overcoming crisis situations.
