Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A press briefing was held at the International Press Center of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan on the preparations for the election of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and deputies of regional, district and city Kengashes (Soviets) of people's deputies.

As representatives of the CEC said at the event, 48 days were left before this important political event. In the 44 days that have passed since the announcement of the election campaign, the CEC, in cooperation with state and public organizations in the regions, local government bodies of citizens and the media, worked on preparing for the election process and promoting the electoral law.

It was emphasized that on 25 June 2019, an updated Electoral Code was adopted, which is the legal basis for the upcoming elections in accordance with high democratic standards.

It was also noted that during this period, 6567 constituencies were created in the country, the activities of which have already begun. To date, more than 200 media representatives are accredited to cover the voting process. Reception of applications continues.

Regional, district and city election commissions were formed eighty days before the election. They work in 31 cities, 171 districts, 12 regions, the city of Tashkent and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

As a member of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhodir Yunusov noted, meetings are currently being held in cities and districts of city and district Councils of People’s Deputies to nominate candidates for precinct election commissions.
