Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During today's fifth plenary meeting of the upper house, the question of sending a parliamentary request on the state of ensuring road safety and implementing legislation in this area was considered.
Due to the fact that there is no complete and effective control over ensuring the safety of passengers on highways, in 2019 over 6 million traffic violations were recorded in the country. As a result, 8588 traffic accidents were committed, 7943 people received various injuries, 2096 people became victims of an accident.
In the first quarter of 2020, 376 people died as a result of 1229 accidents.
According to the analysis, work is being carried out at a slow pace to install photo and video devices for automatic recording of violations, as well as photo radars operating online. In addition, due attention is not paid to many issues related to information support for road traffic on roads, development of roadside infrastructure in accordance with international standards.
Due to the non-compliance with the requirements of teaching secondary school students to the rules of the road, in 2019, 1,309 traffic accidents involving children were committed. 1147 children were injured, 193 children were killed.
During the meeting, in order to eliminate such problems and shortcomings, senators noted that it is necessary to improve the new edition of the Road Rules, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. Problems associated with the preparation of drivers in the country and the examination, cause legitimate complaints from citizens.
Members of the Senate adopted a resolution on sending a parliamentary request to the Cabinet of Ministers on the state of road safety and enforcement of the legislation in this area.
