A Monument to Alisher Navoi Unveiled in Osh
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 12 December, a solemn ceremony was held in the city of Osh, Kyrgyz Republic, to unveil a monument dedicated to the great poet and thinker Alisher Navoi.
The event was attended by delegations from the Andijan regional administration, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan, Osh City Mayor Zhenishbek Toktorbaev, the authorized representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Amankan Kenzhabaev, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy Askar Madaminov, as well as local residents.
The monument was installed at the intersection of Kurmanjan Datka and Navoi streets, in an area that already features the Alisher Navoi Leisure and Recreation Park, a kindergarten, and a school.
Speakers noted that, thanks to the friendly relations between the leaders of the two countries and the ongoing policy of brotherhood and neighborliness, cultural cooperation is receiving renewed momentum.
Following the ceremony, representatives from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan held meetings to discuss plans for strengthening collaboration in tourism, culture, literature, and the arts in 2026. Relevant agreements aimed at developing cultural ties were signed.
During the event, Osh Mayor Zhenishbek Toktorbaev was awarded the Order of Friendship in accordance with a decree of the President of Uzbekistan.
It is worth noting that Osh is home to the Babur Uzbek Academic Theatre, which continues to serve as a significant cultural center for both countries.
