Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 16 December, a meeting with the World Bank Group was held at the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) under the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This meeting was organized as part of a World Bank mission led by Mr. Sandeep Mahajan (Head of Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Practice).
During the meeting, the leadership of CERR emphasized the role of the new Center, in particular, the guests were informed about ongoing research conducted by researchers. It was noted that large-scale work is underway to assess the impact and a detailed analysis of the integration processes within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), analytical work is being carried out as an introduction can affect a particular sector of the economy of Uzbekistan.
The Center’s experts presented their assessments of the possible consequences of Uzbekistan’s entry into the EAEU, and also talked about the impact of trade policy changes on both macroeconomic indicators of Uzbekistan and individual sectors.
CERR experts are currently assessing the possible consequences of Uzbekistan joining the EAEU and their impact on the development of various sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan.
In turn, members of the World Bank mission expressed particular interest in this study. However, the guests noted that the latest changes and reforms implemented in Uzbekistan to improve public administration are very important and timely.
During the meeting, options were also discussed to support the implementation of reforms initiated in 2017 in Uzbekistan over the next 3-5 years.
CERR employees gave their suggestions and visions on key areas of reform of the Government of Uzbekistan in 2020, in particular on trade liberalization, economic development at the macro and micro levels, macroeconomic policies, investments, infrastructure and socio-economic development of the regions, development of competition, further strategies for the development of agriculture, services, etc.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on establishing further close cooperation between the parties on the basis of the CERR research program in 2020.
