Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 July, Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva received Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adil bin Abdul Rahman al-Asumi, who is participating as an international observer in the presidential elections.

Issues of further strengthening relations between the Parliament of Uzbekistan and the parliaments of Arab states, expanding large-scale cooperation, primarily in the field of lawmaking, parliamentary control, intensifying regular dialogues and mutual visits between parliamentary committees were discussed.

During the conversation, it was especially noted that in subsequent years, relations with the Arab states are developing in the field of education, culture, tourism, trade and many other areas, a number of trade and economic projects are being implemented in our country with the participation of investments from the Arab states.

An exchange of views took place on holding, in cooperation with the Arab Parliament, the first Forum of Women Parliamentarians of Arab and Muslim Countries in the city of Samarkand, signing a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation between the Oliy Majlis and the Arab Parliament. It was emphasized that this, in turn, contributes to the strengthening of friendship and the qualitative and meaningful development of mutually beneficial relations in all areas.

Adil al-Asumi noted that the reforms carried out in recent years in Uzbekistan in all areas are at the center of attention of the world community, including the Arab states, and that democratic changes and the transformations taking place in the domestic and foreign policy of the country will undoubtedly contribute to improving the well-being of the people and the state. He supported the wide use of the potential of parliaments, noted the need for mutual support within the framework of international organizations in the further development of political, trade, economic and investment ties between Uzbekistan and the Arab states.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on other projects implemented in cooperation between the Oliy Majlis and the Arab Parliament.
