A Man Detained in Tashkent for Attempting to Bribe Law Enforcement Officer with US$10,000

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Shaykhantakhur district of Tashkent, a citizen who had been detained for drug possession attempted to bribe a law enforcement officer with US$10,000 in order to avoid criminal liability.

During a special operation, local authorities apprehended the man at his home for possessing narcotic substances. In an effort to prevent the initiation of a criminal case, he offered US$10,000 to an officer of the operational unit. Despite repeated warnings about the illegality of such an act, the man continued to insist.

The officer, who was offered the bribe, immediately reported the incident to the Tashkent City Department of Internal Affairs and notified his superiors.

A joint special operation was organized with the participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect was caught red-handed during the transfer of the specified amount.

A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 211 (“Bribery”) of the Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.

The Tashkent City Department of Internal Affairs noted that since the beginning of 2025, criminal cases have been initiated against 117 citizens in Uzbekistan for attempting to bribe law enforcement officers.
