Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Work continues on a project for the construction of wind power plants (WPPs) with a total capacity of 1000 MW in Uzbekistan, which is being implemented by ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia).
For this purpose, specialists studied land plots in different regions of Uzbekistan and selected the Peshkun and Gijduvan districts of Bukhara region and Kanimekh district of Navoi region as the most suitable for the location of two wind farms.
Modern equipment for determining wind readings is currently being installed in these areas. Special sensors are installed at an altitude of 100 meters to measure data such as wind speed, direction and duration, as well as changes in weather conditions. Highly qualified domestic and foreign specialists are involved in this work.
The agreement between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan and ACWA Power on the construction of a wind farm was reached on 20 September 2019 within the framework of the Energy Investment Forum in Tashkent. The parties signed the corresponding agreement on 5 March 2020.
The project using a renewable energy source (wind) will be built 100% by attracting direct investment, its total cost is US$1 billion. Investment agreements and agreements on the purchase of electricity for 25-30 years will be signed with the investor, which will provide the republic with clean energy.
