A delegation of Uzbekistan studies the experience of Finland in the field of women’s rights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality M.Maksudov, paid a study tour to Helsinki (Finland) as part of the OSCE project “Assistance in the implementation of principles and commitments OSCE in the field of women’s rights.”

During the trip, the attention of the parliamentarians of Uzbekistan was focused on studying the experience of Finland in involving women in socio-political and socio-economic processes.

During the trip, meetings were held with the Minister for Cooperation and Equality of the Nordic Countries Thomas Blomqvist, Chairman of the Friendship Group with Central Asian Countries in the Parliament of Finland Kimmo Kiljunen, the Ombudsman for Equality Jukka Maarianvaara, the Ambassador for Gender Equality Katri Vijenikka, as well as leaders of a number of public organizations.

Finland has achieved the greatest results in terms of gender equality. The country has created the necessary legal and institutional framework to ensure gender equality and the rehabilitation of victims of violence.

In Finland, equality issues fall within the competence of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Health, where there are two departments - the Department for Equality and the Parliamentary Advisory Commission for Equality (TANE).

The experience of Finland in organizing the activities of the Commissioners on various issues is noteworthy. Thus, the Commissioner for Equality, the Commissioner for Discrimination, and the Commission for Non-Discrimination and Equality operate under the Ministry of Justice. As a result of the work carried out to date, the proportion of women in the country’s parliament is 47%, and in the government - more than half.

During a meeting with representatives of the Central Asian Friendship Group in the Finnish Parliament, issues of further expanding and deepening cooperation between parliaments and relevant public organizations of the two countries specializing in gender equality were discussed.
