A delegation of Uzbekistan participates in the FAO conference in Rome

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21-24 June, a delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojaev participates in the UN Regional Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Ministerial Conference in Rome (Italy).

The program of this conference includes such important events as the approval of the organization’s strategy for 2020-2021, the election of the FAO Director General and his deputies. The members of the organization for the post of Director-General put forward such candidates as Qu Dongyu (People's Republic of China), Catherine Géslin-Laneel (France), David Kirvalidze (Georgia) and Ramesh Chand (India). At this time, preparations are under way for the pre-election process. From the moment of organization up to now, 8 managers have changed in FAO.

The newly elected Director General will take the place of Jose Graziano da Silva, who has been working at this post since 2011. The new head of the organization will be elected by a numerous voice. Each country has the right to one vote.

On 21 June, within the framework of this meeting, Minister Jamshid Khojaev met with the President of Besana, Giuseppe (Pinot) Kalkanyi. The parties discussed issues related to the implementation of projects to create intensive orchards in Namangan and Syrdarya regions for growing different types of nuts and olives.

Besana in Naples is one of the largest companies producing 42 thousand tons of nuts and dried fruits per year, importing raw materials from 30 countries involved in the cultivation, production and processing of nuts, and the delivery of dried fruits.

The delegation of Uzbekistan also participated in an exhibition organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China at the Rome Hotel Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel. Minister Jamshid Khojaev met with candidate for the post of FAO Director General from the People's Republic of China Qu Dongyu. They discussed issues related to the Uzbek-Chinese agricultural sphere.
